VOICE implements the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Programme in primary schools as one of the entry points to the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals and targets particularly in the underserved and vulnerable communities in Uganda.

The ongoing Hand-washing with soap Campaign implemented using a combination of hardware and software components targets schools; for they offer an ideal setting for learning and usually act as focal points for community mobilisation. The Campaign's special focus on primary school children as the target group is premised on the notion that:

  • Children have the right to grow up in a safe, secure and healthy environment;
  • It promotes health and a change in hygiene behavour at a formative age;
  • It contributes to a happy childhood and effective learning; and
  • Children are effective agents of change within their homes and commmunities and therefore investing in them builds the foundation for sustainable positive change in the world.
